The LitPhone is a fairly nondescript mobile phone with two significant features – a built in TV tuner and a micro projector for displaying video on the nearest wall. Yep, that’s right. It’s a bonafide portable entertainment centre!
The LitPhone was shown off by manufacturers SCT Optronics at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. From the outside this is just a run of the mill smart(ish)phone, but beneath its generic exterior there lies a digital projector capable of beaming video from its tiny lens.
Like many phones aimed at Asian markets, the LitPhone comes with a CMMB TV tuner – combined with the projector this gives you a portable telly that can fit in your pocket but which could be comfortably watched by a room full of people. Not bad for a mobile.
SCT Optronics didn’t confirm the resolution of the projector screen and in the pics at Tech-On it does seem a bit low-powered, brightness-wise. Still, the LitPhone was only running off a Lithium battery and you should be able to get a visible picture with the right lighting and distance to the projection surface.
As well as the built in TV tuner, the LitPhone can also play videos from a microSD card and even plug into a video source like a PC or DVD player to just act as a portable display. With the right battery life (or a very portable charger) and a decent OS this could make a great phone for any Powerpoint jockeys out there.
