The Samsung S8000 is the Korean firm’s first attempt at an Android handeset, and from this spy shot and leaked specs it looks as though they are trying to produce something with a little more oomph than the average android.

Samsung’s S8000 will come with 2GB of internal storage – upgradable via microSD card – a 5 megapixel camera and the usual Wi-Fi/3G/Bluetooth connectivity.

The Samsung S8000 will also sport a 16 million colour Active-matrix OLED screen. These organic LED displays not only look great, but use less power than a normal mobile screen and should stretch out the S8000’s battery past that of its rivals.

DivX and xviD video will be built-in to the OS – we assume this will be for multimedia playback, but are crossing our fingers for video encoding too.

Best of all – and please, please take note here, HTC – the Samsung 5800 will come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack, making it usable as a music player without the need for a silly USB adapter.

No release date as yet, although one Russian site was offering the device for pre-order for 470 Euros (since removed).
