The Acer Aspire Revo, Acer’s first attempt at a cut-price desktop to take on the Asus Eee Box, has just popped up for pre-order in the UK. Don’t even bother to tell the bean-counters, this one’s a bargain! Read on for specs, shipping and pricetag.
Play.com is listing four models of the Acer Aspire Revo nettop (that’s cheap desktop PC to the uninitiated) for pre-order right now, and they undercut rival Eee Boxes and MSI PCs too.
The low end Acer Aspire Revo, with a Linux operating system, 1GB of RAM and an 8GB SSD, only asks you to part with £179.99, while a Vista version of the Acer Aspire Revo with double the RAM and a 160GB hard drive comes in at £249.99.
The top tier Acer Aspire Revo nettops offer the same specs plus a “3D game controller” (remember that rumoured Eee Stick style controller? That’s the one) for £299 and a wireless keyboard and mouse on top of that for £329.99.
All four Acer Aspire Revo models use the standard Atom 1.6GHz chip, but it’s the HDMI port included on the back that’s got us whipped up like Angel Delight. It has the potential to turn the Acer Aspire Revo into a seriously small media centre. Once Boxee gets a full release on Windows, you’ll have a cheap alternative to Apple TV, and with more options for expansion too.
Out 18 May | From £179.99 | Acer (Via T3) (Available at Play.com)
