Apple portable rumours gather pace ahead of WWDC

April 13th, 2009

An Apple “portable device” is in the works, new sources claim. It looks like we’re talking an Apple tablet or iPod touch pro here, rather than a MacBook nano, so read on for all the touchscreen titbits.

Those Apple portable/netbook rumours have been replaced of late with all the new iPhone whispers, but now they’re back, and from the reputable pages of the Wall Street Journal no less.

The WSJ says an Apple portable device is in the works. Specifically, “People privy to the company’s strategy say Apple is working on new iPhone models and a portable device that is smaller than its current laptop computers but bigger than the iPhone or iPod Touch.”

That would point to an Apple portable with a large touchscreen, rather than the Apple netbook Asian sources have claimed is incoming.

The question is, could we see a new Apple portable device as soon as WWDC in June? It’d be one heck of a conference if Snow Leopard, a new iPhone and an Apple portable like the much-rumoured Mac Tablet all debuted at once. We’ll let you know either way.
