TweetDeck, the world’s most popular Twitter client, just struck back against the launch of Seesmic Desktop yesterday with a major update fixing bugs and adding a host of new features, including Facebook integration. The Twitter Wars are on, folks.

We told you yesterday how Seesmic Desktop, with multiple account feeds and column views, threatened to usurp TweetDeck as the micro blogging app of choice for Twitter users. But in just 24 hours, TweetDeck acted, rolling out an update, TweetDeck v0.25, that nigh on sweeps the carpet from underneath Seesmic Desktop.

Under the bonnet, the new version of TweetDeck fixes a memory leak that caused crashes if left on too long, but what you’ll notice much more is the ability to receive and send Facebook status updates, just like Seesmic Desktop.

The new version of TweetDeck will also let you preview short URLs and TwitPic photos, so you can get some idea of what’s behind a jumbled link in a tweet. Unfortunately, you’ll still be able to only use one Twitter account at a time, but it’s a big step in the right direction nonetheless. TweetDeck v0.25 is out now to try, so get downloading and tweet us to let us know how you’re finding it.
