We got our first chance to paw and prod the Sony W-Series Walkman back at CES in January, but now the big S has finally unleashed its sporty, wearable new music player onto shop shelves.
The Sony W-Series Walkman eschews a regular MP3 player design for a lightweight, highly portable all-in-one setup – basically the player and the headphones are one singular unit – which keeps cable clutter annoyance to an absolute minimum. It’s aimed at joggers, cyclist and other active sorts.
There are easily accessible controls so that you don’t have to rip one half of the player out of your ears to skip tracks, and when you’re done listening the two halves lock together with a magnetic latch.
The Sony W-Series Walkman offers 2GB of storage and 12 hours of music playback per battery charge. Sony’s quick-charge tech is put to good use here too – hook it up for just three minutes of charging and the W-Series Walkman will give you 90 minutes of tunage. Not bad if, like us, you have a tendency to forget to charge your gizmos in advance.
Finally, Sony’s ZAPPIN technology apparently makes it easy to browse your music without a display – it automatically detects the choruses of songs, playing just that part when you’re skipping through tracks.
