The Asus Eee PC 1004DN, Asus‘s first netbook with a built in optical drive, just got priced, and let’s just say that an external USB drive is slightly cheaper. Read on to find out how much you’ll be forking over for one.
There’s still no word of a UK release for the Asus Eee PC 1004DN, but Australian website PC Authority has got hands-on with one already. The first impressions seem promising (Decent keyboard and battery life), save for one little issue. The price.
PC Authority says the Asus Eee PC 1004DN RRP is $1,399 AUD. That’s £680 at current rates, so the Asus Eee PC 1004DN is twice the cost of the Eee PC 1000HE, and three times the cost of an Eee PC 901, although it is worth stressing that Australian prices for electronics are notoriously high.
Given you can now buy a 12 inch ultra portable with a bundled USB DVD drive now for less (The HP Pavilion dv2), that seems a large price to pay for a little bit more mobility in the Asus Eee PC 1004DN.
We’ve contacted Asus UK to find out if this figure is in the right ball park, so we’ll update you if we hear anything more on the Asus Eee PC 1004DN.
