Acer prepping Android desktop

Acer already has an Android desktop prototype up and running, the company has let slip. So is it preparing one for release?

An Acer Android desktop wasn’t among the splurge of Acer netbooks, all-in-ones, nettops and ultra-portables unveiled this morning, but we now know the company is tinkering with Android on more than just phones.

Lance Ulanoff of PCMag.com reports that Acer admitted that Android has “a chance” on desktop” and already has an Acer Android desktop prototype up and running, although it wouldn’t reveal if a mass market version was incoming.

We’ll leave you to decide on the pros and cons of an Android desktop computer. It’d be cheap, sure, but there are still no powerful office apps to rival programs already available on Windows, Mac OS X, and desktop flavours of Linux. We’ll let you know if Acer’s Android PC plans move any further down the production line.
