The Beatles’ original catalogue has just been digitally remastered for the first time ahead of a CD release in the autumn – so does this mean we’re finally close to an official Beatles MP3 launch soon too?

The remastered music will be released in a new collection of 14 albums on 9th September, to coincide with the launch of The Beatles: Rock Band. This will be the first time the band’s first four albums have been available in stereo on CD.

But will it also mean the release of a Beatles MP3 collection, an all-digital release on iTunes, Amazon MP3 or any other digital music store? Well, while the word is that the catalogue will not be available online “for the foreseeable future”, it seems likely that these remastered tracks will form the basis for an official downloadable Beatles MP3 collection. We’ll keep you posted on any developments.
