Boxee, the popular media centre software, just threw the doors open on its API, meaning anyone can make an app for the service.
The Boxee API is now public, so developers will be able to model their own apps for the platform, and distribute them through Boxee’s app store, the App Box. Boxee says it doesn’t want to be a “gatekeeper” for the App Box though, so there’s no arbitrary approval process to get what you’ve coded up there.
If you fancy being on the bleeding edge of tech, Boxee has also just rolled out a Boxee alpha version for Apple TV and Mac featuring a Pandora app created with the API, as well as RadioTime, which streams thousands of radio stations from across the planet.
If you’re a PC or Linux user, don’t feel left out: Boxee says it’s working on updated versions for Windows and Ubuntu too.
