Tekken 6 may have been built for the arcade on a board based on the Sony PS3, but its director at Namco, Katsuhiro Harada has reassured Microsoft Xbox 360 owners that the version of the game for their consoles will not “be inferior”. Harada’s team is working on porting the PS3 game to the Xbox 360 and is “making progress every day and we’re quite confident.”
In an interview with NOW Gamer, Tekken 6 director Harada said: “The game is geared to make the most use of the [Sony PS3] SPU and the code is written around this. Also, full motion blur was added while maintaining 60 frames [per second]; something that other fighting games were unable to implement. This is the first time we’ve taken this specialized code to the [Microsoft Xbox] 360, and it will be a big challenge.” Despite that, Harada believes that Tekken 6 will be equal on both consoles. He added that extra Tekken 6 downloadable content would be available for both the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360: “There will be a lot of extra content for both.”
With Harada clearly believing the Microsoft Xbox 360 capable of handling a game that was designed specifically to use as much as possible of the Sony PS3′s power, and following from ex-Bungie developer Christian Allen’s recent comment that Killzone 2 could have been done for the Xbox 360, just how much power difference is there between the PS3 and the Xbox 360? Not a lot, if these experienced developers are to be believed.
