The Nokia E97 is an incredible looking phone, packed with features and stylistic flourishes. Shame it doesn’t exist, really.
The Nokia E97 ‘Envelop’ is a concept phone designed by Parisian design student Fabien Nauroy. Not an official Nokia product, then, by any means but still an impressive effort with some intriguing ideas.
The Nokia E97 takes its design inspiration from an envelope – Nauroy even design some packaging that looks like an air-mail parcel – and is geared towards multimedia and mobile messaging.
The front of the phone is all curves and elegance, with OLED keys that can change to either a numeric keypad or full QWERTY. A basic screen can display numbers and caller ID, but for multimedia or serious typing a wide OLED screen slides out from behind the keys.
The ‘envelope’ concept comes into its own when you realise that the secondary screen is detachable and can be passed to somebody else like a letter. Ideal for sharing images and movie clips – and for showing off, of course.
Internally, it looks like there is a second SIM slot too – although as this is a concept phone it could just as easily be a recess for storing miniature unicorns. Nokia, we beseech you – give this guy a job.
