The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic today added another string to its already impressive bow – it can now stream live television shows from the BBC. Read on for more.

The Beeb has rolled out a beta version of its live TV streaming service, which can be accessed by pointing your mobile’s browser at www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/live/tv. Our buddies over at NokNok.tv have already given it the once over, and it seems to work perfectly well.

You’ll be presented with a warning telling you that the streaming service has been designed to work with Wi-Fi. While this is undoubtedly the way you want to go if you don’t want to amass a stupendous phone bill, you can also use HSDPA 3G if you’d prefer.

You can pick any channel and it’ll stream using RealPlayer. Expect a bit of a wait while it buffers (around 10 seconds), but the audio should kick in almost immediately.

Currently the live TV streaming seems limited to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (toting the latest firmware), but we’d be very surprised if it doesn’t come to other devices very soon. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out NokNok’s images below.
