Back in September 2008 we heard about Asus’s Skype-compatible videophone, the AiGuru SV1. Well, now the name’s been changed to the far snapper Eee Videophone, and it’s out to buy in the UK.
The idea behind the Eee Videophone is that it gives Skype users the opportunity to make cheap (or free) videocalls without the need for a PC. The unit latches onto your home network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet and you’re good to go.
There’s a built-in VGA videocam that apparently boasts good low-light performance, plus a 7-inch 800 x 480 display for viewing your contacts’ faces, not to mention the icon-driven interface.
The Asus Eee Videophone can be wall-mounted if you like, but also comes with a rechargeable battery for users who’d prefer to carry it around the house with them – although at 1.6kg it’s not exactly light.
Out now | £213.44 | Asus (available at Amazon)
