Twitter is working on a Discovery Engine that’ll let you search what people are saying and bring it to you directly on your homepage!
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has announced that Twitter will soon be rolling out a Discovery Engine, that lets you search for words as you can now, but without leaving your homepage. You’ll also be able to save the search queries on the right hand side so you can instantly check on a favourite topic at any time.
Of course, if you use a Twitter client, the Discovery Engine is nothing new – TweetDeck and Twitterfall both bring you words your searching for from across Twitter, not just those you’re following – but what’s interesting here is that Twitter is slowly but surely ramping up the emphasis on Twitter as a search engine, as well as a communication tool. As we’ve said before, that’s how Twitter could make money, and it’s what Facebook would like to get in on too.
The Twitter Discovery Engine is being tested with a small group of users right now, so if you’re one of them, be sure to let us know, but you can see what the re-positioned search bar will look like above. We’ll let you know as soon as a worldwide roll out is confirmed.
