Apple could be working on a new function for the iPhone that sees it automatically phone the police if stolen – and even tell them exactly where it is!
AppleInsider has spied a patent filing that describes an electronic device automatically entering a prevention mode if it detects an unusual amount of force – in other words if the accelerometer thinks it’s been stolen.
The device could then send a security transmission in the form of a phone call or email. The call might contain location information, courtesy of the iPhone’s built-in GPS receiver.
Of course, this is just a patent filing, so there are no guarantees that Apple is planning on implementing this thief-bothering tech in a future iPhone – but at least they’re considering it.
