Windows Mobile 6.5 is set to be a much prettier OS than its predecessor with Microsoft announcing a series of Themes created by top designers. Microsoft has also unveiled plans for the Windows Marketplace and some of the ‘partners’ who will be publishing apps there on opening day.
Windows Mobile 6.5 looks like it will go some way towards dispelling WinMo’s image as The One With The Rubbish Interface. To further enhance the already cleaned up menus, icons and UI elements, Microsoft has commissioned some proper designers from the Design Museum London and the Council of Fashion Designers of America to create a series of Windows Mobile 6.5 ‘themes’ that will prettify your mobile.
Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi is the first designer to unleash his muse upon Windows Mobile 6.5 – you can see his colourful effort above. Others will follow soon and Microsoft will soon release a Windows Mobile 6.5 Theme Generator that will make creating your own designs a point-and-clickable affair.
Microsoft also unveiled the list of Partners for Windows Marketplace – the app store-like service that will be keeping Windows Mobile 6.5 chock full of apps. Over 25 companies – including EA Mobile, Facebook , Gameloft, MySpace, Namco and Pandora will be part of the line-up providding their backing to the Marketplace’s launch. Microsoft will be allowing developers to issue free upgrades (for a limited period) and will support customer refunds within 24 hours.
