The IKEA Leko concept car isn’t a car, folks: in an anti-climax as disappointing as the $10 laptop fiasco, it turns out it’s just a car pooling scheme for the French. Sigh.

We knew the IKEA Leko teased last week was never really going to be a flatpack car, but a little bit of us still died when we discovered that the IKEA Leko is nothing more than a car sharing scheme to help IKEA customers get their plywood jigsaw puzzles home without churning out unnecessary carbon emissions.

Looks like our views on the French sense of humour were proved right. Still, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if the IKEA Leko scheme came to the UK, as anyone who has tried to park outside an IKEA on Saturday afternoon will tell you.

Ha! IT reminds me of the TV adverts for the “Mobility” car-sharing scheme here in Switzerland, where they start the advert with a covered-over car and blend in messages about “the car” being the most environmentally-friendly and cheapest to run one around – then reveal it as one of their branded car-share cars which we see everywhere on the roads over here.

Maybe they even drew inspiration from those TV ads as they’ve been running for a while here.

It doesn’t run on smoked salmon and meatballs, therefore I am disappointed!
