Sony Ericsson has announced an unusual new flip-phone – the T707. Packed with spangly lighting effects and a unique gesture control, the T707 is solidly mid-range, but might take your fancy as it glows from the left-field.
Sony Ericsson’s T707 isn’t going to give the Nokia N-series, the iPhone or any of the countless Viewty-esque smartphones many sleepless nigts, but is aimed at people who want a fairly basic phone with some eye-catching extras.
The T707 has those extras in spades. Not many of them are useful, but they look fun and definitely conversation starters – even if the conversation goes something like “Why are you waving at your phone?” “To stop it flashing.”
Getting the phone stuff out of the way first, the T707 is capable enough – 3.2 megapixel camera, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth, PC sync and a PIM app plus an MP3 player and an FM Radio.
So far, so ordinary, but the Sony Ericsson have tricked out the phone with customisable lighting effects, auto-changing wallpaper that adjusts to the time of day and Sony Ericsson’s own gesture control system that lets you mute the ringer and alarm with a wave of your hand. Three colour schemes are available – mysterious black, spring rose and lucid blue.
Sony Ericsson has brought in tennis star and one-woman calendar industry Maria Sharapova to pose for lifestyle shots with the new T707 because she, um, lights up or something. And she will probably react if you wave your hands at her, although perhaps not favourably.
