Exclusive: The O2 Joggler, the quirky touchscreen calendar cum digital photo frame, could be getting its own app store in the shape of O2 Litmus! Read on for the scoop.

O2 announced the O2 Joggler last month, and while it’s not out until April, the company clearly has big plans for it: it’s considering adding an O2 Joggler section to its O2 Litmus app store.

We asked O2 PR Manager Nick Wilkins about whether O2 would open up the O2 Joggler for third parties to develop for and he let slip: “Certainly in the future, we’re definitely looking at how we can bring in things like O2 litmus.”

Currently, the O2 Joggler only has media playing abilities and limited internet access (Sky news feeds, traffic updates and radio) at the moment, but we love the idea of third parties having a go on it, especially if we get paid to test their apps.

Wilkins stressed that any opening up of the O2 Joggler software was still a long way off, but there’s little from stopping it happening: the O2 Joggler hooks up to your Wi-Fi network so it’ll update over the air. Have a think about what apps you’d like to see on the O2 Joggler (we’re thinking Twitter and BBC iPlayer) and we’ll let you know if and when O2 Litmus opens the door for them.

Out April | £149.99 | O2

Great idea by O2. Of course, it’s Apple-like stuff with the GUI and App Store, but still a nice gadget with some potential.
To introduce a good App Store, O2 would have to open their platform for developers, not only providing own apps.

You’ll be pleased to hear O2 is already doing that (Though not for Joggler): http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2009/02/16/o2-litmus-is-an-app-store-that-pays-customers/ It’s early stages still but the idea is ace, especially since O2 wants to open up for every single phone platform (Other than iPhone of course).
