The Asus Eee PC 1004DN, the first Eee PC netbook with an optical disc drive, could be out by next month, according to new reports. This is a game changer, folks, so read on for the skinny.
DigiTimes reports that the new Eee PC, the 1004DN, which packs an optical disc drive, a feature so far missing from almost all netbooks, will ship as soon as mid-April.
The new Asus Eee PC 1004DN will also run with the Atom N280 1.66GHz processor and a 120GB hard drive, according to eyes on the ground, and will cost around £370 ($530) to £410 ($590).
An optical disc drive is the next logical step for the Eee PC now that integrated 3G is mainstream, so the Eee PC 1004DN is a welcome addition for anyone who fancies watching DVDs on the train without having to rip and convert them on a separate PC.
But April? That’s before even the Eee PC 1008HA ships, so we’re dubious we’ll actually see the Eee PC 1004DN by then. We’re filing the April date for the Eee PC 1004DN under “fingers crossed” for the moment, and we’ll keep you in the loop on any changes.
