Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has already catapulted itself to the top of our gaming wishlist, and that was before we clapped eyes on the first teaser trailer, which reveals clues to the type of challenges we’ll be faced with. Read on to follow our detective work!

Actually, we can’t take all the credit for this. The Russian translation of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 teaser was handled by the guys at Bingegamer.

But combing through it, we’ve spotted parachutes, oil rigs, ships and water mines, what look like levels taking place in a swamp and on a submarine and the usual helicopters and planes.

Bingegamer has also spotted a level that looks like it’s taking place in the snow, and since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 appears to kick off with Russians carrying out an assassination, it’s safe to assume you’ll be tailing them into Siberia, or nearby at least.

Have a look at the trailer below. To say we’re excited about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would be an understatement. The original was fantastic, mixing drama, innovative level design and gameplay with a great story.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has a lot to live up to, but from the look of the first teaser at least, we’re already hooked.

I can’t believe everyone is going bananas over this before they even know anything about it, let alone play the game…

Sad state of affairs, when image/coolness/marketing come before technology..

I would have hoped a “tech” site would appreciate that, rather than creaming over everything iPod/Nintendo/COD before knowing anything about it…

No longer is it necessary to make the best things, you can make adequete or even crappy things (ipod/Wii) and apply a thick smearing of marketing and idiots will kill other idiots to buy one.

  • drewandy

No its all based on past experiences.
i agree not all sequels are equal, but its by the same team as COD4, so thats a great start.
i might even try a 2009 iphone providing Apple have got the basic phone features, that every one has been using for years, sorted!

Apple need to make the iPod work in it’s primary purpose before I would even consider getting one. The sound quality from an iPod is horrendous compared to everything else on the market, due to it’s budget DAC and cheap analog stage.

They cover up most of the digital shortcomings by cutting out the high frequencies in their own earphones. Stick decent cans on them, and you really see how much mush there is in the iPod sound.

I have even heard $5 HonkHong market players that sound better than a iPod (really).

it’s sad we are in a market that buys it’s product based on marketing, rather then technical prowess, as as a engineer myself, I hate this. It’s the reason why the crappy Xbox has sold well, why idiots kill other idiots to buy Wii or the latest Wii hardware gimick, and why Apple sell rubbish sounding (and badly built) iPods, crippled with DRM yet somehow remain the market leader, when there are multitudes of better build, better featured and better sounding players out there…

    (rant over).

Drewandy: You’re 100% right. Infinity Ward did an astounding job with COD4. I spoke to them back before it launched, and the level of research and attention to detail they put in was astounding. I was really disappointed they didn’t develop COD5, so that’s why we’re so excited about Modern Warfare 2. They’re a fantastic team, with great ideas and a huge amount to live up to. Sorry if that’s not enough to get you excited Simon, but it is for us, and we won’t apologise for showing an interest.

“I would have hoped a “tech” site would appreciate that, rather than creaming over everything iPod/Nintendo/COD before knowing anything about it…”

Yeah, heaven forbid that someone actually gets excited about a new tech or game coming out. A “tech” site of all things? Whatever next!

Perhaps the EP team could cut all their adjectives and hyperbole out of the copy. I think we’d all be much better off with lists of specs only. And possibly photos as long as they were shot in unflattering lighting.

  • Simon

OK Brian, tell me what new Tech there will be exactly in COD MW2…

The point is, we simply don’t know. if anything it’s entirely possible that the short time since the last one means it’s nothing more than a rehash of COD4/5.

The fact it’s far more likely to disappoint anyway, simply because Killzone2 has raised the genre so much and COD is a still multiplatform title having to cater for mutiplatform limitations (read Xbox limitations).

cod4 was released late 2007 so they’e had two years to develope this game. i’m not sure alot of people are freaking out over tech rather than experience and variety. & they didn’t work on World at War so it’s not as ridiculously last second as it may seem.

All in all “simon”, i think you’re just a pessimest. Lighten up:)
