Snow Leopard, the next version of Mac OS X, could come with a complete graphical, “marble” redesign, inside sources claim. What’s Cupertino got planned? A complete visual overhaul if rumour mongers are to be believed.
Ever since Snow Leopard was announced last year, Apple has claimed that the new features (Including better multitouch support and location sensing) would be under the bonnet changes. But now inside sources say a UI overhaul is on the cards too, with Snow Leopard ditching the traditional platinum look for a darker, semi-transparent “marble” effect.
AppleInsider speculates that the new look Snow Leopard UI would echo the redesigned QuickTime Snow Leopard developers have access too, which scraps an opaque menu bar for floating, translucent palettes activated only when the cursor is placed over them.
The sources also claim that Snow Leopard will be unveiled at WWDC in June, as pundits have predicted, with a public release just two months afterwards.
For real? As ever, the anonymity of the source means a “marble” Snow Leopard is far from definite, but Apple will have to do something big to keep up with Windows 7. Is this it? You’ll know as soon as Snow Leopard breaks cover.
