The Motorola Ming is a Linux-based touchscreen phone that Motorola aimed at the Chinese market. Although seemingly a bit of a dead end, and at odds with other Motorola phones, the Ming is getting another chance to take over the world in the form of the A1210.

The Motorola Ming was a big hit in China a couple of years ago. A Linux-based smartphone with a productivity suite, 2 megapixel camera that can double as a business card scanner and FM receiver.

Motorola has decided to keep the Ming flag flying with its new A1210 smartphone. Essentially, this is a the Motorola Ming given a 2009 spruce up. Better screen, microSD support and a 3.1 megapixel camera squeezed into a slightly trimmer case with the same Linux OS.

It is not known if Motorola plans to roll this out outside China but you have to wonder if this couldn’t run Android just as well as its homebrew OS. A Motorola Ming running Android could make a great budget handset in the West and could do Motorola a favour as it struggles to gain ground against its rivals.

The real question regarding the Ming is, of course, “Does it come with Flash.” Oh-ho ho. Thank you very much.
