Do you use a Last.fm third party mobile app to stream songs to your phone? You know, useful little apps like Pocket Scrobbler for Windows Mobile and Mobbler for S60? Yeah, not anymore you don’t. Last.fm just banned them. Read on to find out why.
Looks like the recession is hitting Last.fm hard. Not only has it just announced that it will start charging for use outside the UK, US and Germany, it’s let slip that a new API it’s bringing in will stop all third party mobile apps from working.
Fiddlesticks. Technically, the third party mobile Last.fm apps have never been allowed, it’s simply that Last.fm tolerated them before, but it’s a pity nonetheless. You can still use the official Last.fm app for iPhone, Android, the INQ1 and selected Nokia S60 phones on Vodafone as these offer ad revenue for Last.fm, but if you’ve got a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile smartphone, forget about mobile Last.fm entirely.
Last.fm says the clamp down will kick in before the end of next week, so if you don’t have a phone running the supported platforms, better make the most of your favoured app while you can.
