The new iPod shuffle VoiceOver feature could be getting an upgrade, so long as you’re using iTunes on Mac OS X Leopard. An update to OS X has the potential to greatly improve the littlest iPod’s vocal skills. Playlist not being read properly? Better read on then.
We already know that the iPod shuffle VoiceOver feature works best with Mac OS X Leopard as it uses the operating system’s “Alex” text-to-speech engine to full effect. But an improvement for the iPod shuffle could be on the way with the Leopard update, Mac OS X 10.5.7, expected next month.
AppleInsider has had word from developers that the Leopard update includes speech dictionary changes that will improve the ability of text-to-speech. In other words, if you use Leopard the iPod shuffle could read out your track lists with vastly improved clarity as soon as the update drops.
That’s ideal if you’ve got songs by Jason Mraz, MGMT or any other acts with missing consonants on your iPod shuffle.
We won’t know for sure what shape the benefits to the iPod shuffle VoiceOver will take until the Leopard update goes public, but with luck we’ll see for ourselves in the very near future.
