The Microsoft Xbox 360 is the console that has the highest proportion of satisfied Japanese owners, according to a poll of Famitsu readers. The influential Japanese videogames magazine found 24 per cent of Microsoft Xbox 360 owners were extremely satisfied with their console, and 16 per cent were satisfied. This beat rival consoles the Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii, as well as handheld consoles the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

The “composite” satisfaction score for the Microsoft Xbox 360 was 4.2. The closest any other machine got to that was the Sony PSP with a 3.8 composite score (17 per cent extremely satisfied, 46 per cent satisfied). Other rivals scored included: the Sony PS3, 3.6 (17 per cent extremely satisfied, 23 per cent satisfied); Nintendo Wii, 3.2 (8 per cent extremely satisfied, 18 per cent satisfied) and the Nintendo DS, 3.4 (19 per cent extremely satisfied, 23 per cent satisfied).

Of course, there are all sorts of explanations for these scores (as pointed out in recent news that “Sony PS3 games get the best scores…“). The user base for the Microsoft Xbox 360 in Japan is much smaller than for most of its rivals – and hardcore fans who bought the console may well have voted more positively than the mainstream Japanese perception of the console.
