We already knew the Asus AIRO laptop, with its unique Fold/Unfold concept, could be coming out this year, but now we know when for sure: Asus’s CEO has just priced and dated the Asus AIRO, now being dubbed the Fold/Unfold by some, for a release into the wild. Read on for the gory details.
The Asus AIRO, with its rising keyboard and super slim design, was a major hit at both CES in January and CeBIT this month. Its Fold/Unfold design is inspired by origami artworks and means more air can get inside to cool the computer while its open, but allows it to shrink down when it’s closed.
Now we know the AIRO Fold/Unfold will definitely be on sale this year. Asus CEO Jerry Shen just let slip that the Asus AIRO will be out from the Autumn!
Shen said the Asus AIRO “will be available around September or October time later this year,” for somewhere in the range of “$1,000 and $1,500″. That’s between £690 and £1,030 in real money, making the Fold/Unfold concept of the Asus AIRO both beautiful and low-cost. It’s certainly a lot cheaper than the MacBook Air and Dell Adamo.
Can Asus keep itself on track to deliver the AIRO Fold/Unfold in time for September? We think it’s more likely it’ll be October, since the Eee keyboard will be keeping the firm busy until May, and for a fair while afterwards. Although maybe Asus has plans to keep hitting us with well designed, but slightly loopy products on a more regular basis?
We’ll keep you posted as soon as any more info on the Asus AIRO floats into view. In the meantime, be sure to check out our hands-on gallery with the Asus AIRO to see the Fold/Unfold design in action!
