TomTom is now suing Microsoft, just weeks after Microsoft started court proceedings against the satnav maker. Things are about to get nasty, so read on for the 411.
In case you missed it, Redmond started litigation against TomTom in the US last month on the grounds that the latter’s satnav software infringed on Microsoft patents. But no, TomTom is now saying. You’ve stomped on our patents. TomTom has just filed a counterclaim in Virginia, saying that Microsoft’s Streets and Trips range actually infringes on four patents for TomTom’s own navigation software.
Is this all going to end in tears? We hope this will force both sides to leave things be, but Microsoft legal eagle Horacio Gutierrez says Microsoft is still pushing on with its case against TomTom, so we’ll let you know if this court clash goes anywhere anytime soon and prevents us from finding our way on the road.
