Microsoft has just squashed Microsoft Surface 2 rumours once and for all: Second Light is not the next gen version of the multitouch machine. Read on for the official word.
So it turns out Microsoft Surface app developer Joe Olsen was wrong when he said that Microsoft Surface 2 was in the works and due by 2012. Eric Hazir, a Microsoft employee, has clarified the position on the Microsoft Surface blog: “Second Light is not the next version of Microsoft Surface.”
Can’t get blunter than that can you? Second Light is in fact a Microsoft Research project for Surface that uses a second projector to light an image that can only be seen when paper is held over it.
Oh well, no Microsoft Surface 2 then. And with the first Microsoft Surface not on sale until the public until 2011, you’ll just have to make do with pawing one down at the local Tesco instead.
