iPhone 3G goes free on £34.26 monthly from 3rd April

March 20th, 2009

O2 has announced that it is to offer the iPhone 3G for free for customers on a £34.26 per month contract. Until now, the cheapest monthly line rental required to bag Apple’s touchscreen icon has been £44.05.

The sub £35 deal is for an 8GB iPhone 3G as well as 600 free minutes and 500 free texts. If customers want the 16GB version they can pay £44.05 a month for the same deal with the beefier handset.

So where’s the catch, you might be thinking. Well, it’s for a 24-month contract rather than the usual 18-monther, so you’ll be stuck with an iPhone 3G for a little bit longer. Not really a particularly hard thing to deal with…

    Wait for the new hardware!

Toughie isn’t it? Get this now for cheap or wait for Apple to release a new iPhone? And we know how Apple likes a long, drawn out silence followed by a surprise! When is the question, and one no one has an answer for.

    Isn’t this actually more expensive?

    £34.26×24=£822.24
    £44.05×18=£792.05

So not only are you stuck with a phone that will be outdated in 3 months for an extra 6 months, but you have to pay £30 more for the privilege?

    Stupid is as stupid does…
