A report from Internet research firm Hitwise has found that British demand for online video has surged in the past 12 months, with YouTube and BBC iPlayer being the most popular video sites.

The report found that UK Internet traffic to video websites rose 40.7 percent over the year, but that traffic to iPlayer had risen a lot more – it’s increased a massive 152.1 percent, in fact, and has become the 22nd most popular website, video or otherwise, in the UK.

So has iPlayer reached its zenith? We doubt it. With broadband speeds steadily rising and the BBC pushing iPlayer into the HD realm in the very near future, not to mention bringing it to Freesat, we can only see its stock rising further over the next year.
