Terrafugia has just announced its Transition flying car successfully made its maiden flight earlier this month, but never mind that, when can we have one? Terrafugia’s put the flying car up for pre-order for anyone rich enough. Read on for the full details.

Ever watched The Man With The Golden Gun and dreamed of a flying car of your own? The Terrafugia flying car makes that a reality. The Terrafugia flying car, which runs on regular petrol from the pumps, has wings which fold out in under 30 seconds and can cruise at 115mph for 500 miles on one tank, and it’s just had it’s first successful flight in New York.

But more importantly, you can own one. The Terrafugia flying car, called the Transition, is up for pre-order for a 2011 release. It’ll set you back a cool $194,000 (£138,000) on delivery, but to get in the queue for the Terrafugia flying car you’ll need to pay $10,000 upfront.

Ouch. Still, we can dream. Check out the video of the Terrafugia flying car making its maiden voyage below while we go and break open the piggy bank.

Who in their right mind is going to buy the first flying car?

  2. Keron Calame says:

Wooo a flying car! I bet it would be fun to have one of these, I could fly over the rush hour traffic lol

  3. Ben Sillis says:

A boy can dream. Theoretically, if the high street you were driving down was long enough, you could even take off from it! That’s ignoring slightly important things like flight restrictions and the law of course, and if the road was clear you wouldn’t need to fly over the traffic either. But still. We’ll let you know if Terrafugia comes up with a hovering car anytime soon.

“can cruise at 115mph for 500mph”

Whaaa?? can cruise at 115 miles per hour for 500 miles per hour?? which is it??
    I’m confused.

  5. Ben Sillis says:

Well spotted – it is in fact 115mph for 500 miles total!
