SmartDevices has just priced its new tablet PC, the SmartQ 5, and the Linux running touchscreen machine tots up at under £100. Read on for all the details on this delightful little budget box.
We don’t know when it happened, but tablet PCs are suddenly back in vogue. Samsung is back at them and everyone from Asus to Intel is trotting out a convertible touchscreen netbook or two.
But SmartDevices’ SmartQ 5 manages to undercut them all, as it costs just 899 Chinese Yuan, or £94! Compare that figure with the £500+ pricetag for the Samsung Q1EX that’s in the works, and suddenly the SmartQ 5 becomes a tantalising prospect.
For less than three figures, the SmartQ 5 will give you a 4.3 inch, 800 x 480 touchscreen running Ubuntu on an ARM processor, with several office apps pre-installed, capable of video playback.
The SmartQ 5 is unlikely to make it out of China, but at least it shows what companies are actually capable of for low, low prices, unlike the whole $10 laptop fiasco. We’ll be sure to let you know if any more details on the SmartQ 5 break.
