OK, so iPhone OS 3.0 will bring a ton of new features to the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPod touch. But that’s not all – we reckon it gives us a glimpse at what’s in store from the next-gen iPhone. The iPhone 4G, iPhone 3G 2.0. Call it what you will, we’ve gazed into our crystal ball, and we like what we see. Read on to get a peep yourself!

More capacity
Adding Spotlight to the iPhone is a nice touch but lets face it, even with a 32GB iPod touch in your pocket, it’s not too hard to find what you’re looking for. We reckon Spotlight is being built in ahead of a massive capacity boost for the iPhone, iPod and iPod touch, making searching through oodles more data much quicker.

Bluetooth headphones
Apple has enabled stereo bluetooth on the iPhone 3G with iPhone OS 3.0, and it’ll also ‘unlock’ the Bluetooth capability of the latest generation iPod touch. That can mean only one thing: Apple’s got its own brand of Bluetooth headphones on the way. Expect them to be small, sleek and pack the same ultra-small remote to control music playback.

Video recording
Apple has added MMS support which, as we all know, would normally let you send videos to a friend. Not on the iPhone, however. While iPhone OS 3.0 supports pictures, vCard contact details and even sending a location to a friend you can’t send video. Expect the final piece of Apple’s MMS jigsaw to fall into place with the next iPhone.

More accessories
By opening up the iPhone and iPod touch’s dock connector, Apple has opened the floodgates for cool new accessories. We reckon it’s also got a few of its own up the sleeve of Steve Jobs’ turtleneck. It’s already mentioned you’ll be able to record voice memos into its new app using an external mic and “an adapter”… we can see where this is going. At the very least, expect Apple to wheel out tons of new adapters, and a few new accessories with the next iPhone.

Improved camera

The next iPhone will have a better camera. How do we know? Because iPhone OS 3.0 has updated Apple’s own iPhone apps, except the camera. Even smaller apps got an update: Messaging gets MMS support, the Photos app lets owners e-mail and copy multiple photos, Stocks has had an overhaul, YouTube now works with YouTube accounts and Notes now uses cut and paste, search and syncs to a PC or Mac. The only apps not to receive an update are Camera, Weather, Clock and Calculator, which got a new scientific mode in the last OS upgrade. It’s safe to assume Camera is due for a ton of new features in the next iPhone. We’d expect zooming, flash and autofocus at the least.
