iPhone getting CoPilot Live satnav this year

ALK has plans to launch an iPhone version of its CoPilot Live satnav software before the year is out, now that Apple has OK’d turn by turn navigation in iPhone OS 3.0.

Copy and paste aside, one of the best new announcements within iPhone OS 3.0, unveiled last night, was Apple permitting developers to make turn by turn satnav software for iPhone.

This is massive news for the satnav software market, so we spoke to David Quin, marketing director for CoPilot Live, about when we would be seeing commercial CoPilot Live satnav software for iPhone, and he let slip it’d be before 2009 is out.

“We’re very pleased and excited…It is our hope that we’ll be able to bring turn by turn navigation to iPhone users sometime this year,” he said.

Fast work, but as we’ve seen, ALK prepped CoPilot Live satnav software for iPhone some time ago. Quin stressed that nothing was definite. “We need to research,” he said, but that’s an exciting target ALK is aiming for. We’ll keep you posted as soon as any more details break.
