An online game service to rival Steam has come up with an innovative way to buy and play games: it’ll let you start playing them before they finish downloading. Impatient to know more and start playing? Better read on then!

Awomo is a new games download service similar to Steam, but with a great new way to download. Games are downloaded from Awomo engine first, so only a small percentage of the way in, you’ll be able to start playing, and work your way through level by level, whereas on Steam and other services you’ll be left hanging around to download several gigs of data.

Tomb Raider Legend is the only game available to download on the service at the moment, but it’s a great example of what’s possible. The whole game clocks in at 7.2GB, but you’ll only need to download 652MB before playing.

The Steam killing service plan rentals and a subscription service for game downloads alongside regular purchases, and while Tomb Raider is the only game available at the moment, it’s definitely worth signing up for the free beta. We’ll keep you posted if Steam gets scared and follows suit anytime soon.
