Along with the slew of other iPhone updates in iPhone OS 3.0, Apple’s sneaked out a brand new Spotlight search homescreen that’ll let you search through your entire iPhone from one place with ease.
The new iPhone Spotlight search homescreen is as powerful as it is simple. A flick to the left on the first app page pulls the Spotlight search homescreen up, and you can quickly search through your iPhone’s contacts, calendars, your media and even e-mail.
Unfortunately, unlike search on Macs, you can’t scan through mail message content, but the Spotlight search homescreen is a giant leap in the right direction for iPhone OS 3.0 nonetheless. It’ll search message senders and subjects, and should mean finding information on the phone is a breeze. If messages aren’t on the handset itself, Spotlight will also search the mail server.
Apple has also added Spotlight search to all the big applications individually on the iPhone, from Mail to Calendar and iPod, so thanks to Spotlight search, the world’s smartest smartphone is now smarter than Gail Trimble.
