The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) plans to add one button streaming for all of its 1.3 million listed titles. And for free. Yup, absolutely nada. Read on for all the instant movie info.
IMDb has been dabbling with feature film and TV show streaming for some time now, but IMDb founder Col Needham has something much more ambitious planned: he wants to make every single film catalogued on the site available for all to stream with one click of a mouse.
“Our strategy is to allow people to click the play button and they will be able to legally watch an entire movie for free,” said Needham.
The IMDb founder was talking at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Texas this week, where he also predicted that the business model for video streaming online will change drastically in the next few years.
Needless to say, Needham’s vision for IMDb is a long way off, not least because as he admits, “many of the films may not exist anymore and many may not be available for streaming.” A tall order, no doubt, but it’s good to see IMDb aiming high. We’ll let you know as soon as the site makes any headway.
