We’re in two minds about the Dell Adamo. On the one hand, it’s jaw shatteringly beautiful, but on the other, what it lacks in size it makes up for in the length of its pricetag.

To make matters worse, we’ve done a bit of number crunching and it looks like the Dell Adamo is even more expensive in the UK than elsewhere. Read on for the stats.

The cheaper 13.4 inch Dell Adamo will set you back a rather hefty £1,649 in the UK, a good £378 more than the entry level MacBook Air. But we’ve done a pit of currency conversion and it looks like the Dell Adamo is significantly worse value here than across the pond.

The same Dell Adamo will set you back $1,999 in the US, and at current rates, that’s £220 less than the UK price. Or if you want to look at it another way, 13% less in America, or an alarming 15% more in the UK. But the translation gets even worse for the premium 4GB version of the Dell Adamo, which costs £2,249 here but only $2,700 (£1,930) in America. In other words, 16.5% more!

Damn, Dell. We didn’t think it was possible for exchange rates to get any worse during the recession, but according to the Dell Adamo pricing, they just have. We’re heading off to grumble like misers, but we’ll let you know if any more details on the Dell Adamo fall out of the sky in the meantime.

Hi Ben, Ellen here from Dell. I think it might be useful to note that the price comparison between the US and UK is not apples-to-apples. When the US quotes a price, it is exclusive of tax and shipping. This is because taxes vary between states. In the UK, all prices quoted must include VAT and shipping costs, as per trading standards. The net price of Adamo in the UK is £1416.52, which by today’s currency rate is $1988. Keeping costs consistent across many regions and currencies considering different laws, tax rates, and other variables can be challenging, and inconsistencies can occur as a result, but this isn’t a case of “rip off Britain.”

Thanks for pointing that out Ellen. Good to see that Dell hasn’t gone down the route some companies do of charging almost as many pounds as dollars after all then for new tech. By my calculation I still make the £2,249 model slightly more expensive here with tax taken out of the equation, so it looks like the £1,649 version is the one to go for!
