Resident Evil 5′s launch yesterday saw excited fans on a treasure hunt with a difference through London‘s streets. Capcom, makers of the terrifying zombie action game, asked fans of the series to follow clues to gather well-hidden, highly-realistic body parts from around the capital. The collector of the most parts, Steve Long, a 26-year-old IT consultant, won a trip for two to Africa, where the game is set. Unfortunately, Long wasn’t the only person scooping up the gory trophies. Capcom has now appealed to the public to return one head, two torsos and six limbs that have gone missing.
A Capcom spokesperson said: “The body parts are very realistic and we don’t want people to be alarmed by them. They’ve all been taken from their original positions. If you have them, please either return them, or dispose of them in a responsible manner. In addition, chicken livers were used for added gore, and, uncooked, they can be dangerous.”
Police were also called to the main meeting point for the hunt. Contestants had been asked to stand on Westminster Bridge, holding the limbs aloft, and cry “Kijuju!” Which had resulted in shocked passersby calling Police. Fortunately, no one was arrested.
Despite the silly stunt, the game itself is garnering excellent reviews as a brilliant mixture of all-out action and tense exploration.
