Onkyo has just wheeled out a new AV receiver, the Onkyo TX-SR607, and it’s the world’s first model to pack Dolby ProLogic IIz sound support, which adds a vertical dimension to your surround set up. Read on for the full breakdown.
We last saw Onkyo peddling a rather fancy looking all in one media centre, but it’s back with a new line of AV receivers for the living room, and top of the line is the 7.2 channel Onkyo TX-SR607.
At a glance, the Onkyo TX-SR607 is impressive enough: Dolby True HD and DTS-HD audio support and an absurd number of HDMI ports (Six, no less) make it a good’un, but there’s a fantastic USP for audiophiles too.
The Onkyo TX-SR607 is the first AV receiver to support Dolby’s new sound system, Dolby ProLogic IIz, which puts a vertical dimension into your sound if you’ve got two speakers sitting on top of your telly. Basically, if a plane flies overhead on film, you’ll hear it flying above you too, a neat and immersive little trick we can’t wait for.
The Onkyo TX-SR607 ships to the US in April with a reasonable $600 (£427) pricetag attached, and we’ll be sure to shout up when we hear of an Onkyo TX-SR607 UK release.
