Apple has spoken: iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, and the first preview will take place on March 17. That’s next Tuesday, for those of you without a calendar to hand. With a whole new version number, it’s bound to be a big deal. Read on for a hint at what’s inside the iPhone’s new operating system!

Apple has just sent out invites for a preview of iPhone OS 3.0, the next big update for the iPhone, on March 17. Apple says it’s an “advance preview of what we’re building,” so whereas most Apple launches are followed by an immediate roll out, it looks like iPhone OS 3.0 is still some way off.

The event should offer a look at the SDK (Software Developer’s Kit) too, so if you want to get rich on the App Store, be sure to check back on the 17th for full coverage of iPhone OS 3.0.

For most people though, the iPhone OS 3.0 will bring a ton of new features. Apple’s likely to have sped up the phone, ironed out bugs and added even more bells and whistles. But what will they be?

Flash support? Copy and paste? A new version of Mobile Safari? Let us know what you want in the iPhone OS 3.0 update.

    Hm, how about:

    - copy and paste
    - video recording
    - built-in geotagging for photos and videos
    - voice recorder (instead of having to use buggy apps)
    - speed is always good, as is stability

    That’ll do for now!

SMS forwarding is a big one for me, closely followed by copy and paste (although, I haven’t missed it as much as think it’s just silly the iPhone can’t do it). I’d love to see Flash too – it’d open up all sorts of new apps and web apps.
