Grand Theft Auto 5 will release “between November 1, 2009 and October 31, 2010″ Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush Morgan, has predicted. Pachter said there was a “reasonable expectation” of such a move on the part of Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive. The analyst went on to estimate current sales figures for the Microsoft Xbox 360 downloadable add-on for Grand Theft Auto 4, The Lost And Damned. Pachter estimates The Lost And Damned to have already sold more than one million copies.
Microsoft has admitted that Grand Theft Auto 4: The Lost And Damned has broken Xbox Live downloadable content sales records, but has not put a figure forward. Pachter also predicts that The Lost And Damned will have sold over two million copies by the end of October, 2009.
Pachter is renowned in the games industry for making the most controversial and surprising of predictions, many of which turn out to be right. Recently, Pachter predicted that Grand Theft Auto 4 would sell more on the PS3 than the Xbox 360 (unknown), that Nintendo would introduce a new version of its DS handheld console (correct, the DSi) and that Sony would cut the price of the PS3 (not correct… yet).
In his latest gaze into the crystal ball, Pachter also predicted that the second episode of downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV would release after the end of Take-Two’s financial year in October. The add-on is rumoured to feature Dominican drug dealer Luis Fernando Lopez as the final part of an “Impossible Trinity” of playable characters including Niko Bellic and Johnny Klebitz.
