Philips is prepping an invisible OLED panel, meaning you’ll be able to slap it on a window, and see whatever scenery you like, no matter where your home is. Who wants rubbishy, opaque, flexible OLED panels? We’re all about next-generation transparent TVs and high-tech windows! Read on for all the details.
Philips Research, the R&D arm of Philips, is working on an invisible OLED panel that’s completely clear when switched off, but dazzles with light when it’s powered on.
Currently, Philips is working on a 12cm invisible OLED panel, but Philips isn’t the only one working in the field: a project called OLED100 has been set up to help European companies crack OLED lighting and figure out how to make OLED panels completely invisible when turned off.
Philips’ plan at the moment looks to be an OLED pane that doubles up as a light source, but we’d love to see the ability to put whatever image you like in there – especially in winter.
The invisible OLED panel is a good few years off, but we’ll be sure to let you know if Philips comes up with the goods ahead of schedule.
