Fallout 3′s second downloadable add-on will release at the end of March, Bethesda has announced. “The Pitt“, expansion pack to the newly-prettified Xbox 360 version takes you outside Washington DC to Pittsburgh, and deep into the underbelly of the city, introducing a new race of cave-dwellers to shoot at.

In contrast to the combat-heavy first downloadable content, Operation: Anchorage (a holographic retelling of the Chinese invasion of Canada), Fallout 3: The Pitt will feature more similar gameplay to the original Fallout 3 game – action-oriented role-playing, in other words.

Fallout 3: The Pitt plays out in a slaver mine in Pittsburgh, with mutated underground dwellers nicknamed Trogs lurking in the disused parts of the mine. And initial previews reckon it will be about as long as Operation: Anchorage. It’s set to be the same price.

Best of all – it seems Bethesda has learnt its lesson on downloadable content from the fallout over Elder Scrolls and its attempts to charge for horse armour. More pukka Fallout 3 action coming soon.

Out 24 March | from 800 MS points| Fallout 3 (original game available at Game)
