An Android Eee PC could be in the works – Asus is looking at putting Android friendly chips into some of its Eee PC netbooks. We could be about to see Google’s operating system take its first step outside mobile phones. Read on for all the Android Eee PC details.

According to the Taiwanese news site Digitimes, Asus “is evaluating the possibility of developing Eee PCs that adopt Qualcomm’s platform”, a business move that could mean an Android Eee PC is being prepped.

Qualcomm is known for its mobile phone processors, but it’s been trying to break into the netbook market with its recent Snapdragon chip, seen in the Toshiba TG01 smartphone. It’s the world’s fastest mobile processor, and has enough grunt to power a mini laptop. However, you can’t run Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 on a Qualcomm-powered computer, opening up the possibility of an Android Eee PC.

Asus is a member of the Open Handset Alliance, so it’s certainly been toying with Android behind closed doors. But does this mean that Asus is making an Android Eee PC? Or is Asus planning Android for the much-rumoured Eee phone? We’ll keep you posted.

Should Asus make the jump to an Android Eee PC? Would you buy an Android Eee PC? Give us your thoughts below.
