Satnav specialist Garmin has just rolled out a pair of new ultra-skinny GPS devices. The Garmin Nuvi 1200 and 1300 are designed to be taken to the streets, sporting new pedestrian navigation functions through optional CityXplorer maps.

The Nuvi 1200 and 1300 are designed to be light and skinny enough to fit in a pocket, which is handy even if you aren’t playing the tourist because the ones left in cars tend to go walkabouts, leaving only a mysterious layer of broken glass in their wake.

The CityXplorer maps are optional, which is a polite way of saying you’ll be charged for them individually. They do include public transport maps though so you can use your satnav to find your way through various bus, train, tram and underground systems across Europe and North America. Each will cost between $9.99 and $14.99 (around £7 – £10).

The Nuvi 1200 sports a 3.5” touchscreen display, while the Nuvi 1300 comes in at a larger 4.3”. There will be a load of different models available in each series, which may include traffic alerts, Bluetooth and various levels of map coverage.

Prices start from $199.99 (around £140) for the Nuvi 1200 and from $249.99 (£177) for the Nuvi 1300. They’ll be going on sale on both sides of the pond in the second quarter of this year.

I have used this 1390t for 2 weeks, great suction cup mount, super thin, bluetooth took 2 min. to set up, all an all aok, except the speaker sucks. This is whathappens when you make something so small and compact, something has to give. and on this product its the speaker. real tinny sound. its loud enough just real tinny. if I lower the volume then I cant here it.
