Windows Mobile 6.5 left many observers a bit underwhelmed, with its user interface improvements looking a bit clumsy in the flesh. A leak of a more recent version of the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM has leaked online, however, suggesting that things may have improved a little.

Windows Mobile 6.5 build #21169 is the name of the latest escapee. The self-described WM Experts have taken a look and are largely impressed with what’s inside.

The most obvious improvement to Windows Mobile 6.5 is the inclusion of a new version of mobile Internet Explorer 6. The new browser comes with the larger, more touch-friendly, buttons.

The overall stability of WIndows Mobile 6.5 has been greatly improved in the latest build too, and WM Experts report that the sliding screens are much smoother.

Elsewhere, the new Windows Mobile 6.5 ‘honeycomb’ launcher that looked so jerky at the MWC is now a lot slicker and more responsive. Maybe the new Windows Mobile won’t be so bad after all.
