Epson R-D1x: the most beautiful digital camera ever?

View Comments

The Epson R-D1x is a new version of Epson’s RD-1 rangefinder snapper, and it’s quite possibly the most beautiful digital camera we’ve ever seen. More info on the camera you’ll want to take pictures of after the jump.

The Epson R-D1x rangefinder camera takes top digital camera tech and puts it inside a seriously retro shell for anyone who misses the days of film photography.

There’s a 6MP sensor inside the Epson R-D1x, but the touch of class is provided by the rangefinder, which allows you to focus manually as you would have done in times past by lining up two images until there’s no overlap.

New additions to the Epson R-D1x include the ability to save images onto an SDHC memory card as both RAW and JPEG at the same time, but we’re most impressed by the Epson R-D1x’s body and new handgrip. Isn’t it glorious? It certainly gives the Leica M8 a run for its money in the looks department. Not only that, it even uses Leica lenses.

The Epson R-D1x looks like it’ll be Japan only unfortunately, and a cool $3,000 pricetag will probably put off most importers, but we can always dream, can’t we?
